Am I too much of a Star Wars geek if I unintentionally read it in a stormtrooper voice?

            Adam,

Maybe I caught you on a bad day, but my comments are always offered in the spirit of jovial ass-hattery. Some of the amusing optical illusions I may have occassionally pointed out serve only to underscore the difficulty of working in a rigid black and white universe, and the rarity with which I can even make such observations speaks volumes to your amazing talents in conveying so much in such a minimal style. But I can understand that your artwork are your children, and will try to be more sensitive to your feelings in the future. I apologize for any unhappiness I may have caused you, and if you find that my comments take away from your enjoyment from doing the strip, then I will cease and desist. I comment because I truly love your strip and want to see it prosper. It will be difficult to read a Bug strip without commenting, but I hear it’s possible 😉

            All the best,
            WKW

Actually, Hitler’s secretary said he was always very nice to her and the other office staff. “He was a good boss,” she said after the war.

I like how the Storm Troopers are on such personal terms with The Emperor. That’s a sign of good leadership.

So, he cannot be all that bad.

Well, some people relish in the idea of being “evil”, but most people, like Hitler or Brevik or whatever, simply justify their action as being for the “greater good” or because their victims arent really people or whatever other stuff they come up with.

Hitler’s actions weren’t all his fault. His doctor gave him all kinds of drugs that mad him act crazy. That’s pretty messed up if you ask me.

Nerd Bug pondering his politeness after stabbing a guy in the back is hilarious.
As for Hitler…it’s sort of like they say about a person on a date. If they’re nice to you, but not nice to the waiter…they’re not a nice person. But I bet he thought of himself as a real peach.

It’s been told Hitler’s dogs loved him. I have a picture postcard purchased at a gun show where Hitler is smiling at several young German school girls who look as if they’re in the presence of Elvis. And now…Elvis is everywhere.

    Coincidence? I think not.

    Panel 1 – Bug
    Panel 2 – Bug Bundy
Panel 3 – Bug Hiltler, Bug Goebbels
Panel 4 – Bug Emperor, Bug Storm Trooper

Lots of good creativity there, Adam. Very funny stuff even without the jokes. Nice work!!!

Just wanted to say to WKW, it’s entirely possible to read Bug without commenting. I have myself read dozens and dozens of these strips and this is the first time I’ve done this. Just wanted to say “Thanks” to Adam and let him know that I think this strip is one of the most consistently funny things on the web. At your best, you’re as good as anyone out there, which is the highest compliment I can think to bestow.

Hitler and other similar bad guys delude themselves into the romance of the hard decision. Hitler/Stalin/Mao perfectly understood that their greater societies would consider their actions immoral, that’s why they took pains to hide them, but they rationalized that they possessed special knowledge and special vision that the acts were necessary for the greater good. They thought it as something akin steeling one’s self because you had no choice but to amputate a child’s leg sans anesthetics to the child’s life.

Of course, they were all sociopaths who didn’t have to overcome their empathy to do something painful to other people. They just needed to sell it to themselves and others. The scary thing is that they really did believe all their rationalizations because all the great megacides of the 20th century took majorly counterproductive action based on their ideology.

Everybody is an a$$hole sometimes. The key is whether or not you feel enough remorse not to do the thing again.
