i like completely changing the level of complexity from whatever panel 2 is down to simple large blankets. the contrast creates a strong level of humour, kudos adam. i am not easily impressed, but that is good

I thought lobotomies were performed through the eyesocket with a sort of nail and a hammer.

Since a lobotomy is short of using a welder on brainmatter, the aproach by stabbing thorugh the eyesocket is only the “minimal invasive” one.

It’s less a hammer and a nail, and more a hammer and an ice pick.

      That’s usually termed a leukotomy.

    How about lower self awareness?
Life would be much better if I was totally unaware of things that bother me. But I don’t trust anyone enough to let them open my skull.

I wanted to read the comic today, but every time I get to the second panel, I just see mismatched boobs and a tutu and I forget…

    I forget something.

    What was I saying?

The blanket in the third panel made me forget what the comic was about.

Hmm Adam I know you love mixing up the formula so I have a question that might cause an idea? Would hardworking people be ants or cockroaches?

    Great comic!

But… now I want to know WHY Bug tries to lower awareness. What’s the purpose? O_O

That last line is all kinds of perfect. I’m going to have to remember that one; it could come in handy as a comeback.

XKCD did a similar comic today on “Undoing” things. Are you and Randall Munroe working in secret collusion?

Good job lowering awareness. I’m not even aware of what it is you’re lowering awareness of.

Actually, a lobotomy leaves and individual’s IQ intact. Even back in the era before anti-psychotics they weren’t so desperate as to make people vegetables. That’s a myth that pretty much traces to the movie, “One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”

Instead, the lobotomy severed the connections between the fore brain and the emotion generating parts of the mid-brain. Afterwards, patients could remember and reason just fine, they just didn’t much care about the conclusion one way or the other.

Lobotomies were used in the era when 80% of patients hospitalized with severe psychiatric disorders where dead withing three years ,usually from exhaustion. When you think the shadows in the corners are the martian queen coming to lay eggs in your brain, it’s kind of hard to sleep.

Now days we reversibly (hopefully) do the same thing with drugs like Thorazine. Another one of those, “be glad you live in the 21st century” moments.

There are some people who aren’t so hot on modern pharmaceuticals like that, but as someone who’s been helped on multiple occasions by them, I’m grateful, even if the regulatory systems for them are defective.

Medicine or an ice pick through the eye socket? Someone hand me a glass of water, please.
