Actually, rubbing makes it worst, get a towel and put over the spill without applying force, then get a water-proof vacuum cleaner and suck the spill up through the towel, ASAP.
also, forgot to say, if it is something like a really dense cup of coffee or tea, or anything with oil, add a little bit of soup/detergent water before doing so.
