It’s also scary to realize that people in your class are now running things. Some of them are even doctors. I’d run a mile….

As a 21 year old, I am terrified that my generation will one day run for office. *shudder*

Yeah, sometimes it’s hard to understand how come we haven’t burned the world down to the ground, yet.

    I blame flame retardent rocks.

Nah; I can’t remember when I understood that 1) Adults don’t agree with each other very well, 2) They can’t all be right, and 3) The smart thing to do is to pretend to agree with them. The latter can be difficult when there are two or more adults present.

What if all the people who were adults when we were kids just contracted a stupidity plague right when we became adults?

I totally get this. Realizing that because people are grown doesn’t mean they’re more mature, something I see play out at work every day. Also seeing your well passed middle aged parents bicker with their siblings the same you did as a kid a still do.

As a kid it always bugged me when teachers in high school would tell us to “Act Like Adults” when I could see that adults weren’t acting that much differently then we were.

For me, it was when I became a parent. I thought, “Oh, I’m terrible at this. My mom and dad at least knew what they were doing” and then they confessed that they were just guessing like I was. I was shocked, yet relieved…(because I wasn’t apparently doing anything necessarily wrong)
    Shlieved?

A little humility goes a long way. Kurt Vonnegut when pressed to explain the meaning of life would respond, “Don’t ask me. I just got here myself.”

I’d probably pick “Demoralized.” But that might be a bit too general of a term.

Closest we got is the multi-word phrase “convinced that grown-ups are a myth”
