    LOLZ!

I'm happy that the mechanic I bring my car to is fairly conservative. He'll point out problems here and there but tell me straight up what needs it and what can wait.

I know how to change a tire, and check my oil, but that's about it. I feel your pain.

    Few years ago:

Mechanic: I'll give you a better car for $10.

    Bug: No.

    7 months ago:

Mechanic: You damaged the transmission and have some other engine related issues.

Bug: I would like it fixed.

Mechanic: I'll store it elsewhere till you have the money to fix it.

    1 month ago:

Bug: Thanks for returning my car.

Mechanic: I needed the space for other cars, thus why I bought it back.. Also the rear brake wasn't working.

Bug: Noticed that when trying to tow it 20 miles. Took tire off, hit brake rim with tire iron. Thus tire spins freely.

    Mechanic: 20 miles? why?

Bug: Storage until I find someone else to fix it.

I'm on my sixth used car. If something breaks I get another used car because most of the time it's cheaper.

It's odd how most car insurance policies don't cover cars when they get "sick." I guess if they did, we'd see mechanics jack their rates up even more, just like health care.

The stuff I previously posted is true and it happened to me recently.

This was prior before towing car 20 miles.

Mechanic: It'll cost $1000 to fix or I can get another car for $500.

My father: I'll mention it to my son when I see him.

Yep, if I had a car, I'm sure I'd be suckered into all sorts of unnecessary overpriced "repairs". I know the basics from watching other people do it, but I never managed to learn much beyond that. Us computer nerds don't do so well in auto shop class…

You know, just about every male in my family is mechanically inclined, except for me and my littler brother…My uncles, my dad, my big brothers were all grease monkeys…kinda weird how that turns out.

I know the odd repair, and can usually figure something out. A plus of being female is that when I have car trouble, I can take it to the mechanic and stare forlornly at the car and get a pity discount.

I can do basic maintenance on pretty much anything mechanical or electronic, as long as said thing isn’t super freaking complicated. That said, if my check engine light comes on, I’m still taking my car in.

After all, who am I to disobey my car?
