I don't know why, but everybody around here(Southwest Missouri) calls it a wife-beater like there's nothing odd or wrong about it, and around children, even! First time I heard that term, my theater teacher recommended getting a wife-beater to wear under a costume. A what?!

Holy crap, that's the funniest one I've seen in a long time. I read it at work and was trying so hard not to laugh out loud. I had to take off my glasses so the image would be blurry as I tried to navigate away.
My cousin and I almost died laughing at the "rape scarf". And if we ever see THAT one catching on…well, that's the point where I do the honorable thing and and put a sword through my heart.

To clarify: Tank tops got the nickname "wife beaters" from COPS, because husbands arrested for beating their wives were usually seen wearing them.
Actually, wife-beater only refers to the white tank-top-like undershirt. Tank tops are still called that.
While I was in Scotland I was told bottles of Stella Artois are called wife-beater.
