Besides, you still have a choice to take drugs anyway. I know hat people manage whether or not it’s legal. Making it illegal didn’t take away all choices in the matter. It simply gives greater consequences to take drugs. By the way, you feel so strongly for taking drugs. Any special reason?

Really, the majority of the seatbelt law is the driver taking responsibility for those in the car. If he wants to endanger his own life, that should be his right, but driving without being sure that everyone (especially children) are using the safety devices should not be allowed. Which is why in my state, KY, the driver has to pay a fine for every person in the vehicle not using a seatbelt.

As an Australian it's kind of weird to think about people who don't wear seatbelts. Here it's enforced by law, if the cops catch you without one it's about a $200 fine and three demerit points on your licence. And that's just if it's only you not wearing it, if you have a passenger of any age not wearing one you BOTH get penalised the same (or just you if the passenger is under 16). More demerit points if you are carrying multiple passengers who are breaking the rule. So yeah, pretty much everyone here wears seat belts, even people who own old cars that didnt come with them are forced to have them installed IIRC.
Its illegal in almost all states except Maine. and the fine is huge. Ive never received one so I dont really know how much. But the passenger doesnt get fined I dont think. Its been forever since I read that book/ took that test. Its just common to wear here now I guess.
I was in a head on collision back in 2004 in a small sports car vs. an SUV & would most likely be dead now if I hadn't been wearing a seatbelt. Instead I & my gf walked away with very minor injuries. And if you think you're such an amazing driver that you can always avoid an accident think again. Sometimes people do ridiculous things on the road giving you no chance even if you have the reflexes of a hockey goalie. The idiot crossed into my lane coming in the opposite direction & hit me before I could even blink.
After all that my gf's dad is still not wearing a seatbelt. I guess conservatives are conservative in everything. Even a personal experience of someone so close to him didn't get through to him.

I am absolutely against laws that require you to wear a seatbelt, but I never go anywhere without wearing it.
I've known people who have died in wrecks because they were ejected or partially ejected then crushed by their own vehicle, and I've seen a wreck where the only reason the driver survived was because he was thrown from the seat, which was smashed into the steering wheel so hard that both seat and wheel were broken.
As far as I am concerned, it is a matter of personal choice. I have no right to tell you what to do with your body. Just don't try to make me pay your bills when you get hurt.
Actually, you are statistically more likely to drive bad when wearing a seatbelt due to the false sense of safety it provides. Also, it's like 50/50 it will help you in a really bad crash. Sometimes, they act more like a restraint keeping you within the area of damage. Had my dad been wearing his seatbelt he would not be here today.
Our school had a great solution – they scared us into it.
They had a comedian / former nurse tell us a story about how a stupid gorgeous 21-yearold girl broke her jaw and lost her looks. Also, some nerve broke (is that how you say it?) in her jaw so she cant feel half of her jaw ever again…
