Why do a charity walk when you can do a death march?

That would be quite a predicament… But I don’t get the “blinking ribbon” bit.

That’s a reference to “Logans Run”, like the gun. One of my favorite movies.

In “Logans Run” every person has a gem in their left palm that shows what age group they are in. If it is blinking red then they are at the end of their final year(30 years old) and it is time for the carousel where they have a slim chance at rebirth. Runners are killed on site(or walkers in this case).

        THAT’s what movie that is!

I’ve had vague memories of a scene with a guy and a jewel on his hand but, I was too young to remember what it was or what was going on.

Well that’s easy enough to fix. Just chop off your hand. Yes there’s massive blood loss and all, but it’s better than being murdered. If anyone asks about it, lie.

    Happy Patreon Day, Adam!

(all that sweet, sweet moolah comes rolling in on the 2nd from everyone, right? Not just from me?)

I always love investment pay day. Even after all these years.

Don’t worry, it will never get cured. They’ll do just enough to let people live with it. Fifty years from now don’t be surprised if you hear “No big deal, just my Leukemia acting up”.

Somewhere there’s a bar full of old fat people wearing t-shirts for conquered diseases… There’s Stan from Smallpox, Rita from Rinderpest, Paul from Polio…

You all joke, but that’s what happened to March of Dimes. They started out to cure polio. When that was pretty much a done deal, they switched to birth defects. I assume that is where Adam got the idea for this strip.

Wonder if we should start a walk-a-thon for orphaned walk-a-thons? We could call it “Walk for the disease”.

Adam – did you have a strip about people asking you to support a disease, and the person asked asking back did they mean to support the fight against that disease. As in does cancer really need my support?

I tried looking in the archive, but while you have wonderful titles for your strips, they’re difficult to correlate with the strip.

Sounds like something I’d do, but it doesn’t ring a bell. ‘Course, I’m the worst person to ask because I always end up forgetting about strips that I’ve drawn.

Yup, and worse: The March of Dimes got pre-empted by the vaccine developed by Jonas Salk, who was *not* funded by them. Albert Sabin, who was funded by them, got relegated to an also-ran. (Admittedly, his vaccine is still used widely as well.)

As a ham radio operator, I volunteer at several charity walks and runs each year. If a cure for some of them IS found, I hope they don’t excommunicate me.

My cause is unfunded webcomics. We called it “walk for the punchline.”

    Yay! “Logan’s Run” reference!

I saw that movie when I was young during my formative years. It made quite an impression on many people who watched it.

(Someone once told me that when he saw it in high school back in 1976, it was considered THE top science-fiction movie of the day. That is, until Star Wars came out the very next year, turning Logan’s Run in little more than a memory…)

I would assume it would turn into a huge celebration party, with alcohol, nudity and singing. I mean, we cured cancer people! This is big! sort of level party.
    .
But I do love the Logans Run reference.
