I’ve been watching Star Trek since I was a boy, and I always wondered why ey never showed them playing video games. Then I realized; they’re in space. Why would they need video games when they basically live in one already?

They do have the simulators, those are their video games on crack.

Say, how do I beat the Kobayashi Maru stage located in Tau Ceti IV?
(as a side note, I am amazed by the fact that they get the “IV” part right, the 4th planet in Tau Ceti was only recently discovered and seems to be located in the habitable zone.)

I would note that TNG did a video game episode in which players wore VR glasses and tried to use brain impulses to move a ball into a cup, or something like that. The game would then send an impulse back to the brain activating pleasure sensors. People became addicted.

Everything old is new again; the popular video games on phones are rehashes of classic video games, but with updated graphics. Sure, there’s no artificial direct brain stimulation, but I no longer find that plot so stupid.

Anyone else wonder if the guy on duty in the transporter room would just teleport his poop to the lavatory instead of going on a break?

Maybe this is why there are no/few toilets in the Star Trek series – they simply teleport their inner secrets to the depths of space (where the sudden decompression probably results in instant expansion of the fecal matter).

To boldly blow where no man has gone before…

I usually assume they have some kind of nano-robots in their bodies that can break down everything they eat and turn those into energy, while recycling the water so they can even drink less.

There was an episode of Voyager, I think, in which a woman with an alien husband was having trouble giving birth, and after a long struggle the holo-doc decided, “We’ll just teleport the baby out of you.” I would have stood up from the bed and choked him for not thinking of that ages ago.

All waste matter (in TNG and forward) was supposedly used as a base for the replicators to use. So the replicators are related to the transporter technology, just they re-order the matter they start with. Which seems awesome but also disgusting if you think on it too closely.

“Jesus, if these people had made Crysis, you’d only be able to run it on the #@$&ing Starship Enterprise!”

            – “Yahtzee” Croshaw, during his review of “Amy.”

Not accusing anyone of copying anything, I just think it’s funny you both came up with the same parallel. Yahtzee, much like you, is teh shiz.

Error updating drivers. The firmware version of your plasma coupler interface is not supported. As a result, your ship will be running in safe mode, with weaponry and shielding disabled.

    Do you want to:

Do plasma conduits and panels refrain from exploding in everyone’s faces while in safe mode? They should really patch that…

The expression on Bug’s face in panel 1. Amazing what you can do with pretty much just the eyes of your characters!
Well, the body language is pretty expressive too.
At any rate…awesome as always, Adam!

I wonder what it would feel like to be only partially teleported, to be nothing below the waist?

Some goes for medieval europe – in the 10th millennium they never had to reboot their plows in the middle of the field, swords and arrows required nor driver software neither electrical power at all, and no one had a water toilet (or knew one).

Future historics will call the years around 2000 the æra of the boot cult, I guess.

However, Arthur C Clarke DID write a story about a space navy that got into a fatal upgrade cycle. “Superiority”.
