I’d wager that the Grammar Nazis are enough. No use for other linguistic elitist peoples.

    That is just hilarious!

You know, I think I would’ve been able to put up with the ridiculous Microsoft Office Assistant if they’d used the Grammar Hun or SpellCheck Barbarian.

All those in favour of adding “French Phonics Legion” to the english language say ‘aye’

Capitalize the e in English. From one grammarist (not a Nazi).

Quebec French is the best french *eat popcorn* 😛
Actually, French use “Merde” as we prefer to use (prononce) “Marde” indeed (litteral translation of “sh*t”). So we could suggest that the bug being poked is French Canadian and the “Grammar French” would be.. french.

This is funny because the French foreign legion is actually composed of… foreigners, who for the most part learn French on the spot. They all talk like stereotypical cavemen with heavy accents and probably can’t grammar for shit.

Conjugate the verb “to go”… 🙂

I would love to say I’m a grammar Hun, but that sounds too much like “hon”, and that would be confusing.

I love grammar. I’m also fond of grampar, too.

French Phonics Legion is fitting because for some reason, French speakers compulsively correct pronounciations. I say this as a native French speaker.

Pronunciation is crucial! I would so love being in the French Phonic Legion. But then my northern accent would probably not make me popular :p

This one is definitely going in the Keepers file. Either panel 2 or 3 would have taken it there, but to have both in one strip….

Panel 4 reminds me of an editorial cartoon several years ago when transatlantic travel was down: a Paris street lined with cafes, and waiters on each side making insulting gestures to their counterparts across the way. “Deprived of American tourists, the French turn to insulting one another. Society quickly unravels.”

The French take the French language VERY seriously. I don’t know if the Académie Française actually has a French Phonics Legion, but it would not surprise me.

The French also take the Queen’s English very seriously. In high school I had a French teacher who was Parisian. She tried to tell us we didn’t speak English correctly, based on hearing David Bowie speak English. She refused to accept that American English was a thing.

That’s ONE French person. Don’t assume they all do that just because ONE teacher did it. I’m French myself, and I find it quite absurd that a French teacher tried to teach you your own language, or didn’t know about different accents. Actually, it quite baffles me since she was, well, a TEACHER.

The artwork on panel 3–priceless! The whole strip is hilarious, and I *love* Hon Bug, but something about Bug flinging his papers up in the air while being chased within an inch of his life is just delicious.
