    The harpoon is obviously superior.

Mom bug debut? We’ve seen motherly bugs, but not necessarily bug’s mom. The hair is distinctive so I’m thinking it’s possible. I can’t remember the designs on any of my old Trapper Keepers, so mom must not have let me get a cool one 🙁 What I do remember is that they were deliberately designed not to last a year. I wonder if kids still use them and if they’re still cool. Maybe they just use iTrapper iKeepers. Well except the lucky ones who scored cheap HP Touchpads 🙂

Go with the SCUBA gear. Yes, a harpon gun can get you out of trouble–once–if you don’t miss. But with the SCUBA gear you can lie on the bottom at fifty feet until Mr Great White decides to go after the real seals darting by overhead. If you had to do that holding your breath, you could break the world breath-hold records and still drown long before the air in an Al-80 reached the half pressure mark. To put it simply, spearguns are great if you already have SCUBA gear, but a speargun is in no way a prereq for SCUBA gear.

I remember Pee Chee folders. Spent a lot of time doodling in class by coloring in the athletes’ clothes.

I wish I could have found a Trapper Keeper with Magnum punching a shark, and if it came with the bonus harpoon gun that would have been sweet.

You spoiled brats! When I was young, all we got was a sharpened stick and a rock. If we wanted to write, we gouged our hands and wrote with our blood. If we wanted to carry something, we had to use our hands or kill an animal and skin it.

A stick and a rock, and the rock had to be shared by the whole class.

Blood?!? You spoiled kid. We wrote in the dirt! Talk about a pain…you did your homework, scooped it up in your hands to take in to Mrs Thoog, and had to re-do it all because it had disappeared and all you were left with was just loose DIRT!

They came out in the late 70s and early 80s. Before, you had three-ring binders to keep hole-punched things and manila folders (or some such) to keep other things. The Trapper Keeper was a three-ring binder together with “trapper” folders. A trapper folder had extra folds to make sure its contents didn’t spill out. It also had holes punched in the side so that it could fit in a three-ring binder. The Trapper Keeper held these in its three ring binder, and had an extra flap with a bit of velcro to seal the whole thing up, so that even in the most clumsy situations it wouldn’t spill its contents all over the floor.

I used to love rapper Keepers, but because of the school I went to I had to carry a three-ring binder made from stainless steel diamond deck.

Wow. I was in WTF land with Chris till I looked it up. And I can safely say we didn’t have those things in Nova Scotia when I was in school (82-95). Wish they did tho, wouldn’t have needed a 3 inch binder each for 12 subjects a year…… weighed my backpack once, it was 67lbs(binders+ textbooks) , that was grade 5!!! (no lockers till high school, and yes you were expected to have everything everyday)
