Yes, all bird watchers have that mustache…and the ladies all have that bun-type hairdo.
And no, you can’t join a bird listening society. I’ve tried. It’s incredibly easy to get Red-Winged Blackbirds all confused with regular-winged blackbirds and such and then pandemonium ensues.
Stick to watching them, and owls are jerks. Just ask a field mouse.

Owls are out at night, and bird watchers are out during the day, so they wouldn’t see them.

Old Caney there in panel 3 could win the yearly championship if someone put on some old Abbot and Costello in the background…

How about Bubo from Clash of the Titans? Though i guess since it’s mechanical it wouldn’t count.

I suspect when a lot of people think they’re hearing owls, they’re actually hearing doves, which are way more common and probably more likely to be making noise during the day: http://youtu.be/-qS77R0Y1K8

Is that Woody Owl in the first panel? Didn’t he used to be Smoky Bear’s sidekick until the government cut funds?

Labyrinth doesn’t count because the owl reminds him of the babe.

A barn owl flew into the side of my van one night when I was driving home. I pulled over because I didn’t know what hit me at first and it was lying in the middle of the road-got a blanket out and used it to pick it up and it woke up and stared at me then flew away.

A common thing in birding is to keep a “life list” of all the birds you’ve encountered. You can in fact add birds you’ve only heard, not seen, as long as you were able to identify the species!
