I’m hoping for the opposite. Just gonna eat stuff that tastes good and hope to die by 38.

My great-grandmother, still alive at over 100 ate and still eats traditional southern style cooking. She smoked for 30 years and drank for 40. When I first met her I was 15 and she was 96, she hugged me so hard I had to gasp for air afterwards. That woman has never once in her life decided to eat “healthier” and she lived on her own in her own home until she was 101. Now she only has a part time care giver who works for all of 4 hours.

So yeah, I eat whatever the hell I want knowing I have those genes in me.

You don’t live longer eating healthy food – it just seems longer. 🙂

It is such a load of crap that the serving size of Pop-Tars is one tart, but they come wrapped in sets of two. Nobody just leaves one lonely Pop-Tart in the box, still half-ass wrapped in the torn-open wrapper.

Well, maybe some people (like my cousin), but they’re freakin’ nuts.

It’s a common problem. The “serving size” of those 591ml (21oz IIRC) soda bottles is like half the bottle. Who the heck drinks half of one of those?

Amusingly, the problem isn’t companies choosing unrealistic serving sizes to be able to claim fewer calories per serving (although that does happen as well) – the sizes are mostly chosen by the FDA.

Check the serving size of ice cream… it’s ridiculous.

… and after you’ve had the two, you decide it’s not just a snack, you might as well go for the meal, and have another two. Now there’s just two left … might as well finish them off.

      (paraphrasing of Paula Poundstone bit)

Hell with living to 100. I’ve already decided that the moment I cannot wipe my own bum I’m checking out my any means necessary, up to and including trying to eat a running lawnmower.

Maybe the bacon cheeseburgers aren’t so bad. At the risk of looking like a spambot, check out one of my favorite documentaries. This guy started off by rebutting “SuperSize Me” and actually got healthier on a month of cheeseburgers.

In one of Jim Butcher’s “Dresden Files” novels, the main character, Harry Dresden, is asked at one point what he wants on a vegetarian pizza. His response is, “Dead cows and pigs. Hey… they’re vegetarians.” Looks like a lot of us are “second-degree” vegetarians. I know I am. 😉

A story in today’s news says that a lot of old people ate, drank, and smoked whatever the heck they wanted, and it mostly is down to genes:

For anyone who didn’t know: Jack LaLanne was an early American fitness expert who was a sugar junkie as a kid, but turned to a healthy life of good nutrition and exercise. He wound up living to the age of 96. Quite a relevant figure for this comic.

Jeez, Adam, stop trying to teach me things while I’m reading comics!

To be honest I’m holding out for some dietitians somewhere to discover that cheeseburgers and soda extend your lifetime by a greater amount than vegetables or exercise. (I realize this is wishful thinking, but hey, I can dream, can’t I?)
