Since my birthday is almost a month to Christmas, in recent years I ask for cash only gifts or crap that I can actually use. Doesn't always happen, so I end up returning the item, spending the money to get what I really want.

Discovered your comic few days ago. Read through every strip and laughed at all of them. One of my "must-read" strips!

See this is why I don't have kids. No kids, no problem with Christmas gifts.

I LOL'd at the second panel. I think it's the guy's excitement that sold it for me.

I'd totally support this idea, unless any of my family/friends wants to buy me a nice digital camera to replace this one that records video at 320×240.

My mother suggested this once when i was 8, she went on for it for half an hour and started to sound convincing, then all i had to say way, but what about me, and everyone shut theirs mouths faster then ever, i was confused on weather i was getting anything that year from anyone but santa, i knew santa had my back (until 2 years later i caught my mother sneaking presents)

I think this totally works, so long as you only apply it to people you usually exchange presents with. You still have to buy stuff for the kids, but no mucking about trying to guess what others want. Also, I'm inclined to agree with Goeber and just buy your presents whenever.

Of course, it's still nice to have something to unwrap on the day, so waiting a bit for stuff you want in December can be fun.

Last panel reminds me of the Wish Squisher from MST3K's Santa Claus Conquers the Martians invention exchange!

"It's your four year old sister's raisin collection!"

I do this every year, since I don't have anyone to share Christmas with. *cries*

On another note, should that not be "Since I don't have ANY income" in the last panel?

Really need an edit button. I meant to say should that not be "without ANY income". You can edit this into one post if you want. 😛

No I don't think it should be "any income". "An income" works just fine… Because he is basically saying "I don't have a job, therefore I don't have an income."

I had started asking for money since I was a teenager and used the money to pay for clothes and books. Later, I used the money save from birthdays and Christmas to help pay for college.
When I got a job I just gave everyone gift cards that way they could buy what they wanted and not what I thought they wanted.

Just give ’em $200. They’ll think they’re rich! Besides, you can buy a couple video games or a truckload of in-app purchases with that.
