I’m pretty sure moxie means “tough attitude” or “guts”.

Moxie is also a delicious* drink from the New England area! It tastes approximately like root beer**!

    *Dubious – Discuss
** Original Research. Multiple studies suggest that it tastes like herbs on amphetamines.

Remembering the days of my youth, Moxie is “approximately like root beer” as sewage is approximately like water. My Nana used to try to foist it off on me when she ran out of Coke.

I can’t help but think of… Moxie Brown, 1970s black lady cop with guts of steel, and a heart of generic brand pudding with an indeterminate flavor.

When I think of Moxie, I think of a rather foul soft drink. (That is my personal opinion. Yes, I understand that there are those who like it. I suppose it’s an acquired taste. Like Vegemite.)

Ehm, so what is a moxie? And what is a jib? A quick internet search didn’t turn up anything relatable.

The term Moxie actually comes from the soft drink’s ad campaign that showed people with adventurous or tough attitudes had Moxie. Jib, I believe is a nautical term.

A jib is the small triangular sail at the bow of a sailboat. The “cut of your jib” refers figuratively to your general appearance, manner, or style. So saying “I like the cut of your jib” means “I like your style.”

Moxie is a soda or as we call it here in the plains, a “Pop”. The fantastically funny, although now badly dated, “Bored of the Rings” by the Harvard Lampoon had Moxie, Pepsi, Spam, and Frito as the Hobbits off on the quest to destroy the ring. Dildo Bugger stayed behind on this particular quest. Goodgulf was the wizard. Anyone else remember Good Gulf gasoline ads? Arrowroot of Arrowshirt, Gimlet, Leg O’ Lamb… Badly dated. Hope there hasn’t been a revision that I missed.

Or as we calls it in Southern New Hampsha, “tonic.”

I always tell guys that it’s not the cut of the jib but the way you sail it that matters.

Good heavens! Moxie is a drink? I always equated it with Mojo and the like. “Cut of your jib” is indeed a nautical term. I think it was one way pirates complimented one another or something. “I like the cut o’ yer jib, matey”. Maybe it was a pick-up line, I dunno.
I do know that jib size does NOT matter! It’s how you unfurl it…yes. right. exactly.

How has no commenter yet said that they like your moxie?

    I like your moxie, Adam!

In other news, the soft drink that some have mentioned already is easily my favorite soda.

Also, “A Night At The Roxbury” is one of my favorite movies, so I’d say that the title was a win.

I approve of the title as well, but I was disappointed at the lack of the Haddaway.
