Actually I wonder if every pregnancy starts out with 8-10 babies and whether we end up coming out solo or as twins or triplets depends on how fast we chew through our siblings?
No. Twins can only form under specific conditions. Fraternal twins are when two sperms merge with two eggs, and identical twins are when one sperm merges with one egg and then the egg/sperm combination splits, forming two genetically identical embryos.
Long time lurker, first time poster: The logic in the 3rd panel seems off in reference to the first. I feel that it should be, “If you _don’t_ keep your mouth shut” but then that does not flow as well. (If she does keep her mouth shut about twins then how is anyone going to know she will need two of each thing?)
I think it means that if you don’t tell folks that one of the twins has absorbed/eaten/won-the-Thunderdome challenge, then you’ll get twice as many presents.
I was thrown off a bit too (because of the way that the first panel begins), but when I read panel 4 I realized what was meant by #3.
She told everyone she was having twins. Because she keeps quiet about the fratricide, everybody still thinks she’s having twins. So she gets twice as many baby shower gifts–one for each baby, including the now-absorbed one that no longer exists.
Fetus Thunderdome may be one of the best lines EVER! I can see a book series written by Stephanie Mayer…oh, nevermind. It would be full of whiny, shiny teenagers and she’d ruin it.

I don’t know about this strip. Sure, I can see the humor, but there’s a disconerting feeling of “Dude, not funny” that isn’t really balanced out by the humor. Is it just me on this?
Yes, I realize this humor is used often, and I’d like to restate that I’m not the one offended – it’s just that I thought that this one’s “funny:edgy” ratio was cutting it a tad close.
