It appears that they’re the only ones who are concerned enough about the trashing of it to speak up; not politicians, lawyers, military personnel sworn to protect it…I hope they get enough “regular joes” on board at some point to say, “I got your back.”

It was originally only conservatives who tried to apply revisionist hostory and make it seem like drugs and free love were all that existed during that movement, but now corporate media is making everyone else buy into it….

I think of the “hippie movement” everytime I see an ad about what good corporate citizens one firm or another supposedly is (think ~ “Who care’s about the environment? At Chevron,we do.” – another that comes to mind was from either “Groove Tube” or “Kentucky Fried Movie” where an oil company ad spoof had a voice-over talking about all the pollution its company was said to cause to the air and lakes, streams, oceans, beaches, and wide open spaces while they showed images of blue skies, crystal clear waters, and sparkling shorelines and ended with the voice over stating – “so we spent millions of dollars…to make this commercial.” ).
One has to remember that corporations had to be dragged kicking and screaming to even pretend to be “good” corporate citizens. Now, lying sack of crap faux-libertarians crow about how bad regulations are and that corps are naturally good corporate citizens because not to be would supposedly affect their bottom line.
It’s not entirely untrue to say that when you breathe clean air or drink clean water…thank a hippie.
Btw, a bit of historical trivia…based on how hippies were mocked for their starry-eyed utopian “peace and love” mentality, an unoffical name for punks and the punk rock movement (which I love for the music regardless) was “hippie’s revenge”

Little tidbit FOR your side btw, maggots, at one point, WERE a form of alternative treatment for soldiers in the civil war and I think the revolution (don’t quote me on that one, can’t readily remember), due to their tendencies to eat the decaying and dead flesh rather than the healthy stuff around wounds thus at least prolonging the time before really bad infections, and other stuff would rear up. Some people saw this and now Maggots, while not WIDELY used, are a form FDA approved treatment. My big quarrel is with non-FDA approved treatments that people sell like it’s a bottle of excedrin, when in reality they have just as little idea about it’s affects than the other person, they just know that they took one one day and then felt good a little while later with no other real connection.
