Sound’s like somebody’s never eaten one fresh out of the fryer.

Yeah they’re gonna be very hot and do-not-touch. The stick is probably also useful for pulling them out of the fryer, though not necessary.

Probably for grip purposes. The kind of food that ends up on sticks (ice cream bars, popsicles, and the like) is food that has a natural slipperiness to it [Oh, wow, Chrome says slipperiness is a word]. So they get impaled on wood that is rough enough to have a more reliable grip and thinner than the food itself so that if it -does- slip, it doesn’t slip right through your hand.

Do you perhaps mean fish hooks in panel 3?

Also: to not be directly holding something fresh out of hot oil and covered in possibly melting ketchup.

Yeah when I read the panel all I could think of was Pizza with fried fish sticks as a topping.

      Mmmmmm….

I must admit I’m shocked to hear this from a Wisconsinite. Tell you what, Adam: the first eleven days of August are the state Fair in Milwaukee. Head on down and have a deep-fried s’more-on-a-stick or two, and you’ll come to understand why. Or you won’t. Either way, you’ll be happy.

I might just come over this year. I live in Minnesota and can’t get enough state fair!

Have you never been to the Minnesota State Fair? Anything and everything that could be put on a stick is. Belgian waffles, bacon, spaghetti and meat balls, tater tot hot dish… the sky is truly the limit.

How do you put spaghetti and meatballs on a stick?

Meatballs slide on, and wind the spaghetti on afterwards, like cable on a winch.

Follow up question: How long are your spaghetti – or are they sold in packs of a hundred sticks each?

Canada? Where they have tacos on hockey sticks?

We have tacos WITH hockey sticks, but nobody tries to use the hockey stick as a grip for the taco itself.
