Of course he’s not the Prince of Darkness, as we all know that title is already taken by Ozzy Osbourne.

I love how each panel in the Bug universe is a joke unto itself, and builds up to the eventual last panel’s punchline.
    TGI Friday’s…(snicker)

Huh. When I saw “ends” and “beans” in the title in the RSS feed, that wasn’t where I thought you were going….

I know someone who responds to her children’s “But I WAAANT it” moments with “Tough beans.” Except, now she says, “What am I going to say to that?” and the kids go, “…tough beans” and admit defeat.

She has, like, a 95%+ success rate at staving off tantrums this way. I’m not sure how she does it.

… why would you hate people who say “Cool beans”? More importantly, why would you say you hate such people? It’s a harmless phrase, and a genuinely enthusiastic sentiment.

I really don’t understand the need to rag on people for their choice of words. It’s things like this that grate on me about this comic — the senseless put-downs of vanishingly small demographics.

Do you *really* think Adam *really* hates people who say “cool beans”, or any of the other “small demographics” ?

Of course not. I just think he’s throwing his punches in the wrong places. People with quirky and dated vocabulary are wholly inoffensive.

“Hate” is a strong word to be throwing around like that, even insincerely. I woulda been happier with the whole thing if it’d been “Even though people who say ‘cool beans’ are incredibly lame, at least…”

It sounds so phony. Too many people who say “cool beans” are trying too hard to sound cheerful when they really want to say “Yes. Now please kill me, I hate working here.” And it sound phony even if the person really *is* cheerful.

At least they are not as bad as people who say “see yah later alligator!”.

Oh, come on. I know two people who say it, and they really are cheerful. There are a lot worse things to say.

Well, OK… I should have said “in my experience”. And that experience would spoil the effect if any other person tried that phrase on me.

Anyway, I’m arguing this all wrong in any case! I guess a better, more balanced argument would be “can’t you allow a writer a little comic hyperbole?” Because, thinking about it, that’s what it is – comic hyperbole. He doesn’t “hate” such people, just finds them slightly annoying. But it spoils the joke to say “they may annoy me slightly …” etc etc.

And now I’m tempted to write a story about a world-destroying villain that nobody suspects until it’s too late because he says ‘cool beans’.
