Ok, missing the punch line here. Googling on redtipped bayonets didn’t really come up with anything either, but the strip was kinda fun despite that.

Must be some kind of US-internal kinda joke here, or I’m just dim. Both are possible. 😉

I believe some blind people carry walking canes that are red on the tip, to make them more conspicuous. 🙂

I assumed “red-tipped bayonets got used”, i.e. are covered in blood. So a red tip may or may not be foreboding… Dangerous rule of thumb if you ask me.

Well, I’ve never seen those… It’s always been white canes here

My guess is that, like toy guns kids have with the orange plastic on the barrel they gave the blind soldiers fake guns so that they didnt shoot their own side.

I was guessing because the blind ones can’t see and hurt themselves while installing the bayonets, so theirs are red before the real fight.

yeah, it’s definitly a reference to the red tipped canes blind people use to walk. although, “Someone” might be onto something there

I’ve only seen white canes, or occasionally, white-tipped canes, never red-tipped ones.

In the US at least, people who are blind often have white canes with red tips that they use to feel out obstacles while they walk.

File under, “D’oh!” I was looking for something so obscure that I didn’t even think of the obvious.

No, really, somewhere in there I was thinking about the red and blue tape on the bad guys’ magazines in Die Hard 2.

Thanks, Adam. Now you made me go and think of Die Hard 2.

No worries. I know this one was a little cryptic.

As many of you know, the ‘whites of their eyes’ policy was considered the main contributor to the debacle against the natives of Arrakis.

I’m thinking blind soldiers might be stumbling around a bit, and accidentally stabbing people with their bayonets. I mean, who is going to give a blind guy a gun with or without a bayonet?

And not to belabor a point, but man you can get some amazing expressions with the eyes, Adam. Panels 2 & 3 killed!

I love bug because of the less is more art style. Some comics make it with just “stick figures”. Another favorite of mine is http://www.surlyqueen.net/life-on-a-stick/ This artist makes amazing faces on simple stick figures. Try it, you might get addicted to it too.

Jeff, there are states– maybe a lot of states– where a blind person can get a hunting license, no problem. So some of them are out there with guns, yes. I don’t care if someone tells them which way to shoot; that’s still a bad idea.

There are no dumb questions. Really?
The questions do reveal the understanding of the one asking the question.
This army is doomed unless the other side has the same kind of pool to choose from. Maybe not doomed since neither side will ever fire a shot that will count.

The Calvin and Hobbes influence can really be seen in this one, both in facial expressions and in writing style. Which is a good thing! I always loved how Hobbes would fly off on a tangent leaving Calvin’s cleaver plan far behind. Keep up the good work
