I never saw the appeal towards be vegetarian. Meat is healthy when consumed controlled portions. Also, there's no point in doing it for animals. I mean, it's natural; it's the circle of life. I'm not saying that I'm atkin though. That's just plain stupid.

      Personally I went through a phase….

I felt guilty because livestock are basically slaves and fisheries get hammered….

I still fell a bit guilty but sometimes only meat can make me feel all warm inside.

I am far outside the norm, and therefore speak for no one but myself, but personally I have just never liked the taste of meat. I don't see much wrong with the killing of (some) animals, although the crueler methods implemented today are not something I approve of; that's a different argument entirely, though.

Atkins seems silly, though. If you're going to cut out part of a burger to make it healthier, you should probably try something other than the bread. Likewise, steak but not many fruits, you may still have trouble keeping the pounds off.

Of course, my diet is somewhere around 95% carbs, so I may be biased. No tofu, though. Never liked that stuff. Same with meat substitutes, which should be obvious considering my main reason for being a vegetarian.

If you disapprove of the crueler methods used, move to somewhere like in Europe or in South America, where these methods are ACTUALLY USED. Here in the US, they only use quick, painless devices (have no idea what exactly they use, air maybe?) that are sanctioned by the FDA, which also controls the quality of the meats. One shot in the head kills them right there.

That PETA video that is passed around isn't even real. Everything was faked just to get their way. Those farmers that they show are ALL Hispanic, A.K.A. from the Mexican area. A small tip, PETA is fake all-around and they only destroy everything, not help like they say they do.

I am not sure where you got most of that from, considering that I gave less than half a sentence to what you've ranted about. I don't even know what PETA video you're talking about; I don't even like PETA. However, as a person who has lived most of his life on a farm in the Central Valley of California (pretty much the agricultural center of the world), who has raised animals as part of 4H, who goes to a college with a well-funded agricultural program and who has Ag major friends, and who has generally been around the stuff for his whole life, I believe that I can safely say that, yes, some of the practices used in the raising and processing of animals are rather unpleasant. I'd rather not continue this discussion in the comments of a humor webcomic, but suffice to say, it's not all gumdrops and rainbows there.

On the video thing, by the way, although I have never seen the video in question, Mexican/Hispanic workers does not indicate a lack of truth. There are a lot of Mexican laborers on the farms down here; I've seen more than I've seen farm workers of every other race together, in fact. You can't say that Mexican workers means that the place is in Mexico any more than you can say a that a video with a bunch of Asians in it takes place in China, without any other factors. If you're going to accuse someone of being fake, even a group of people like PETA (who could be the focus of a different rant entirely), make sure you're not as fake as you say they are because you have no idea what you're talking about.

hello, reki. i've always wondered what it would be like to read a coment from someöne who can actually spell and use proper grammar, but nonetheless has no idea what he or she is talking about. now i know. thank you.

Actually, I know EXACTLY what I am talking about. There is a video passed around and shown in schools that was made by Peta (even though they didn't put their name on it). It shows how animals are 'really' treated on farms. EVERY vegan I have talked to referenced this video and said how it converted them.

You have your opinions, and think they are facts. I have my opinions about the matter as well that are BASED on facts.

"Peta is the SOURCE of veganism. Nobody would be vegan if it wasn't for them."

reki, you cannot possibly say that every vegan decided to be so after seeing that video. i'm a vegan and i didn't know what you were talking about until i googled it.

and you make us sound like some kind of cult. rude.

Humans are omnivores, we CAN eat meat. But we don’t need to and we can’t digest it quite properly. We can get the same proteins, iron, etc. from vegetables and grains and stuff.

I’m not a fan of meat but even I would eat meat before the veggies.

I know this is a fairly old post but some of us DO need meat. I have a hormone disorder that basically makes it so that if I eat anything processed with carbs, or too high amounts of them I can’t and wont lose any weight. My body will overproduce insulin because PCOS can cause insulin resistance in some people (and I am one of those unlucky ones).
I also get anemic very easy (specially as a girl around certain times) and if I end up not eating meat, like a nice big hunk of beef liver I end up getting very sick.
Because of the different reasons I sadly can’t go vegetarian because all of the vegetarian main sources of protein are ones that’ll end up messing with my health more and getting me sicker in the amounts needed to keep me healthy protein wise and keep the anemia away.

well i personally dont feel bad about eating meat it is natural cycle, its like saying lion not to kill because the animal will feel pain, i am sure if dinosaurs are around they wont hesitate to kill us, but wildlife must be saved we are eating the animals we grow like crops so i dont see whats wrong here.
