Actually it’s not apple. But due to many revisions and interpretations people assume it was apple.

Did I just became the party pooper?

True. It’s my understanding that historians and theologians believe they were really pomegranates. Still… I’d be screwed as I have at least 1 a year.

Yes, I believe it was a pomegranate. And as someone who used to try to convince my mother that I hadn’t been anywhere near the neighbor’s pomegranate tree (with a stained red face and hands), it makes me giggle a little to imagine Adam and Eve with juice dripping off of their faces and trying to lie with a straight face.

Actually, none of those make sense to me. I’m a Muslim, and I asked my Islamic teacher about it. He said-
Why would God give us something to eat if He Himself forbade him?

Not trying to bring religion into this or anything, but I’m just a 13 year old who wants to… Help, I guess :3

It’s never mentioned as a specific type of fruit but just fruit i.e. whatever edible thing the tree produces:

The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

In the renaissance, artist depicted the “fruit” as an apple and a popular conception was born in Christendom.

Im Not Sure Exactly I Think It May Be Because He Was Testing Adam And Eves Faith In Him And How Loyal They Were To His Commands
Or Perhaps He Was Using Reverse Psychology To Make Adam And Eve Eat The Fruit Which Makes Sense If You Think About It Because He Made Them With Things Like An Immune System Which You Would Only Need If There Was A Possible Chance You Can Die From Something Such As An Infection.

My Graphic Design teacher makes up things about how terrible PCs are in order to justify his love of Mac computers. My favourite was when he was giving the quick introduction to using a Mac computer, he mentioned that we didn’t have to restart the computer to change the desktop background.
Because, y’know, that’s a thing with PCs, right?

Actually, the Bible says that God removed the tree entirely from Earth so it wouldn’t happen again.

If you want to get theological about it, there are several camps of Biblical interpretation that think that the “fruit” wasn’t necessarily a physical object, but possibly a simple concept or metaphorical action.

Also, citation needed. Nowhere is it ever said in the Bible that the Tree of Knowledge was removed, nor the Garden of Eden for that matter – humanity was cast out, Badass Angel McFlaminSword was put at the entrance, and it’s never seen again. Presumably the garden withered and died as a result of the corruption from the Fall.

BUT THERE I GO ON A THEOLOGICAL TANGENT. Apologetics Apologies.

The Bible doesn’t specifically state what type of fruit it was. I’ve always wondered who/how/why it was taken for granted that it was an apple. Either way, apple, pomegranates (and no, not watermelon, they don’t grow on trees, and a tree WAS specifically mentioned), the point was that it was forbidden. A simple request, as the garden of Eden was full of food that was good to eat, but for this one tree.
Adam, the title of today’s comic is pretty great, though. Assuming it was an apple.

No no no, you are forgetting your religious allegory details. It was the tree of knowledge. Knowledge. Not apples. Eve received a “fruit”, but it was fruitful knowledge.

What knowledge, you ask? The knowledge of agriculture. The planting of seeds and growing of edibles, thus guaranteeing the ability to feed self and tribe without having to hunt and gather. And thus will Adam perform back-breaking labor for the rest of his days.

Because the allegory is not about the fall of Man, but rather the fall of men. The fall from the relatively easy work of gathering what God provided, to the heavy work of growing and tending it. Which women discovered by observing how plants spread and grew, because they were not out hunting. Thus have they been blamed since for replacing an easy job with a very hard one.

If God truly wanted humans to know of His/Her/Its/Their plan He/She/It/They have failed miserably.

    Clearly, God is an underachiever.

Well, God seemed to create humans in a manner that bypassed an actual childhood where one might expect such learning to take place.

Instead, it’s a weird “Flowers for Algernon”/Charlie Gordon dynamic where even though technically adults, the emotional maturity is not up to speed.

When there’s a flaw in the design…blame the designer.

Or you could just say that the Bible is full of metaphorical stories like every other religious text, so it doesn’t matter whether or not it makes literal sense because that isn’t the point. 😀

The bible does forbid orchards as unnatural however, and specifically apples which are grown in orchards by grafting branches from trees with good fruit to younger trees are a sin … although only to grow, not to eat.
