I think you might have mixed up Snow White and Cinderella, at least if your following the disney route. In snow white, a witch hands her the apple while in Cinderella her step mother is a terrible person….

I believe the Disney version of Snow White shows that the witch is, indeed, Snow White’s stepmother. It’s always the stepmother…

I never really put much stock in the “evil stepmother” thing; I realized that it was kind of a silly thing, really.

Then I got my stepmother, who was far, far worse than some movie villains, with my friends actually expressing outright horror at some of the things she’s done. So I suppose there is some truth to that sort of thing.

It’s a stepmother who ‘just so happens to be’ a witch, so you’re both right. 😉 It seems Walt had something against his stepmother given how often they turned out to be evil witches. Egad.

Actually, in both fairy tales (Grimm versions) they are both stepmothers. In the Father Goose tales, Snow White had a Queen that is supposed to be her mother while Cinderella has the stepmother. And yet, in an old Celtic version of Cinderella, the wicked woman is her stepmother while in an Italian version of Snow White the Queen is her mother.

Any questions? I read far too much.

I’d put grad students above office workers in the UnableToSayNoToQuestionableFreeFood category.

Although in the office, some times you HAVE to eat the rock hard, overbaked free food so as not to hurt a coworker’s feelings. Social mores go out the window if they bring in a fruitcake — along with the cake itself.

Yes! Grad students will take any form of free food, and even if it wasn’t poisonous in minute quantities, they will consume enough for it to melt their insides.

What a strange reply, Liro. First of I think you might be wrong, judging by the amount of people that comment I would guess that Adam’s strips get quite a lot of hits every day. Secondly, who gives a shit about fame as long as the strips are hilarious?

Scorpion venom is made of peptides, a protein that people can ingest, so eating scorpion venom filled doughnut would not harm a person, assuming they had no cuts on their mouth or throat.

Whether or not bugs on the other hand can safely ingest it sounds like a job for science!

Actually all venoms can be safely ingested so long as you don’t have any throat cuts or stomach ulcers. It needs to find it’s way into the blood stream.

Oh and love the comic Adam.

It doesn’t matter if bugs can safely ingest it, because doughnuts are made from fried dough. The process of making that would negate the venom.

I remember a co-worker deciding to catch an unrepentant food-thief by lacing some brownies with chocolate-flavoured laxative. Left them in the communal fridge, in a clear plastic container clearly marked with their name. Come lunchtime, two of the four brownies in the box had mysteriously disappeared. Come afternoon tea time, so had two of our co-workers. 🙂

So…. Basically…. because YOU’RE not good at packing lunch… everyone else has to be, so you can take some of their’s?

I eat a lot more than normal people… but it still only takes $5 dollars at most fast-food joints to fill me. Most normal people could get away with the same if they get combos or more expensive sandwiches. I stick to the value menus because everything else is over-priced in comparison. Even Subway has a $5 footlong menu. It’s not difficult to get cheap food. You don’t have to take another person’s food, and they don’t have to share.

Off-topic: Has anyone else noticed how cheap some fast-food places are compared to buying food at the store? I did the math… it’s cheaper to buy McDonalds than Bologna sandwichs at my local store.

Eh, during certain eras, step-moms got a bad rep but rightly so. Wife the first dies in childbirth or from some disease and Dad remarries. Being it’s a hard life, food and other resources are sometimes scarce. Wife the second, the dread stepmother, doles out the lion’s share of the food and other resources to her own children, to better continue on her genes. The step-kids are competition for her own children and so she makes sure the step-kids get the dregs. And thus a stereotype is born.
