Another definition without looking it up, I presume? I know you have at least a full week of these.

    “That’s How I Droll”
    “Doctor Estranged Love”
    “Search Terms”
    “Dumbass Definitions: Gallivant”
    “At a Loss For Words”
    “Grand Lunacy”

Balance your checkbook? Haven’t done that in ages, and I was a master.

When I worked at the bank, I balanced other people’s checkbooks, but only when absolutely necessary. Got this lady’s account to 42 cents off from a total balance and she had the nerve to complain, so I stopped volunteering for things like that. Her record keeping was terrible and 42 cents difference was a very good result.

Please explain to non-Americans what this “balancing your checkbook” is. We haven’t used checks in ages.

As a non-american as well, I always assumed it was comparing the checkbook against the money that was actually drawn from your bank account.

Honestly, your answer confused me even more 😀 Why would you need to check that?

It’s an idiom that means to responsibly use your income to pay off debts and costs, the balance being money earned versus money owed.

So you can make sure that the amount that where withdrawn from your account are identical with the checks you wrote and no mistakes were made (/fraud commited).

Fun fact: I actually know part of how power of attorney works for weird reasons.
When I was 15, my older sister got warts on her fingers and had to have them frozen off by a doctor. Except that since my sister was still a minor, they legally had to have a parent there every single time they did it (it took like 5 sessions) and my neither of my parents could take the time off work. So the loophole solution they gave was they they could give ME power of attorney over my OLDER sibling until she turned 18. I didn’t even have to sign anything. The legal rights to my sister’s life were signed over to me and I didn’t even have to be there. But since I was a nerd, I read the whole document anyway.
The important parts are that if both our parents died, I could become my older sister’s legal guardian (???) and that I had full control over any medical procedures. I believe control over money was also part of it, but since we were still kids, we didn’t have any.
But as a younger sibling, you can bet I was incredibly hyped to have even a tiny bit of power over my older sister, and I have still never let her live it down. I was just so excited anytime a doctor said she needed an adult with her, and I was able to just wave that document in their face cause I got to be the adult in that situation.
