The wigs were a way to counter getting lice. Similar to Ancient Egyptian wigs.

Oh, your question is in regards to them being white, not the wigs themselves. I rescind my claim from Monday that I know the answer.

To be fair, on Monday, it was just about wigs in general, only now did he add “white”.

I heard it was because they thought it made them look smarter, due to white hair being associated with the wisdom of age.

That and none to many lived long enough to achieve white hair naturally

Is panel 4 is a reference to R. A. Heinlein’s “The Puppet Masters”?

I had to chuckle at the “Barbara Bush.”

That reference might not make sense to younger readers, as to them “Barbara Bush” refers to a pretty, young socialite.

What’s really funny is that people think today’s fashions are any better or less ridiculous. Why have men been wearing makeshift nooses around their necks for over a century now? Why is getting tanned halfway to the point of skin cancer supposed to be attractive again? You’re injecting collagen WHERE?

Describing a tie as a “makeshift noose” reminds me of Calvin and Hobbes. Their role is to provide colour contrast (which is why you wear a dark tie against a white shirt and a bright tie against a dark jacket).

The popularity of tans is a direct factor in the decline of racism, so regardless of whether you individually find a tan attractive, the trend has had a net benefit.

No idea what collagen is, never heard of any trend related to that, so I’m in no position to comment on that one.

Collagen is a protein that helps hold bodies together, and it can be extracted, turned into a gel, and injected under the skin to create a “puffy” effect. A lot of women are getting it injected into their lips to make them look more “full”. If the practitioner is incompetent then it can create a disfiguring lumpiness!

Unlike silicone collagen is a protein naturally found in human bodies, so there is less risk associated with it. However it is too soft for procedures such as breast enhancement – though I expect somebody will try to solve that!

Well, I’m still in no position to comment on the practice itself given I’ve never seen anything of the sort, but the practitioner’s incompetence is no fault of the subject. Thanks for the information!

The wigs were withe because they were powdered. The powder cover the disgusting smell and helped control de lice. They became popular when both the king of England and the King France started going bald at a young age due to Syphilis. Honestly is a disgusting story that tells us a lot about pretentious shit like that; the wigs ended up costing a fortune.
